Maia Bassett
Visual Arts Educator
My intentions as a Visual Arts educator are to create the conditions that can nurture the students' artistic spirit, in an inclusive environment where they can find different paths to share ideas, beliefs, and perspectives.
Slow Looking
Living Materials
I believe materials can become live instruments for the transfer of ideas. Non-living things can gain life at the hands of humans. This is what I constantly remind my students, to consider how to connect to materials and explore their affordance and conditions so that they can decide what material can serve as a pathway to create, and build connection with an audience. I started this exploration in the Early Years, and I continue to embrace it in the MYP. I consider this part a fundamental stage as students understand what it means to create and reimagine.
